Lower Production Costs with Oscillate/Traverse Wound Coils

Kellie Geissler · June 13, 2024 ·

Gibbs Interwire, a Combined Metals Company, is dedicated to enhancing efficiency and productivity for our customers. In addition to ribbon wound/pancake coils, we offer oscillate winding, also known as traverse winding, to help customers cut their productions costs.

Oscillate wound spools and coils can transform your production processes and improve cost efficiency.

Why You Should Consider Switching to Oscillate/Traverse Wound Coils:

Compact and Stackable Spools/Coils

Spools carrying up to 1,500-2,000 lbs are compact and stackable, saving you valuable space on your plant floor. This efficient use of space allows for better organization and increased room for other operations.

Reduced Changeovers

Switching to oscillate wound coils or spools can dramatically reduce the number of coil changeovers each shift, leading to more consistent production, fewer labor costs, and boosted productivity. In precision stamping and forming operations, some customers have reported 6-8 fewer changeovers per shift. Estimating 10-15 minutes per changeover, across two shifts, one could potentially gain up to 4 additional hours of production time daily!

Customizable Spools

Our spools can be customized to fit your uncoiling spindle diameters through the use of machined inserts.

Protected Packaging

Tightly packaged traverse wound strip is well-protected within the spool flanges, helping to preserve edge conditioning and often resulting in reduced freight damage. Our robust packaging and skilled team will ensure your materials arrive in optimal condition, minimizing waste.

Longer Run Times

Gibbs Interwire can oscillate wind your coils to increase run times per coil. The larger spools and coils allows for extended production runs, reduced downtime, less scrap, and lowered costs. We oscillate wind up to 2000 lbs. per coil/spool.

Lower Tool Wear

The smoother, continuous operation of oscillate/traverse wound coils and spools may help to reduce wear and tear on your tools.

Multiple Size Options

Gibbs Interwire offers a variety of sizes for oscillate and traverse winding to meet your specific needs. See our spools and reel sizes.

In Conclusion

Oscillate/traverse wound coils and spools can significantly enhance your production efficiency and material handling, directly improving your bottom line.
